Visualizing the Invisible
For this week's assignment, I made a program that allowed me to shoot lightning bolts out of my hands. This stemmed from the prompt of how the program should act as an extension of the body, coupled with how, as a child, I would run around and pretend I had superpowers.
I looked at how motion capture tracks the point of most movement, and through saving its previous location, as in pmouseX and pmouseY, I was able to calculate the distance that point had moved.
I then used Pythagoras' Theorem to get the angle of movement (tan = opp/adj), allowing the lightning bolts to follow the vector of movement.
This concept of visualizing the invisible has also been explored through my thesis, where I'm exploring how typography can capture tonality within speech.
